Alum Gets Baseball Scholarship

Helping Hands
In the elementary programs, students earn acknowledgements for demonstrating responsible and harmonious behavior within the school community.  These acknowledgements are then added up and students can select a priviledge that allows them to further demonstrate responsiblity throughout the school.  Some examples are visiting a younger classroom to be a helper or read a story to a younger group....

Valentine's Day Celebration Details
Toddler Students: Teachers will recognize Valentine’s Day during the children’s snack time.  There will not be a valentine exchange in the Toddler program. Primary Students: Children should bring in one handmade Valentine card for reading at the Valentine’s Day celebration.  The Valentine should express the child’s feelings of love for his/her family, school, teachers, animals or friends, etc....

Happy Chinese New Year!
Sophia’s parents, Yanjun and Rulfeng, came to the Sunflower Room to talk about Chinese New Year. The New Year began on Jan. 23 and is celebrated in Asian communities with 15 days of food, firecrackers and fanfare designed to ensure that the Year of the Dragon is full of good fortune.

Elementary Students Hit the Slopes
The Elementary students had a great day skiing at Shawnee. Each winter the students take three ski trips to the mountain to participate in the Skiwee ski-school program.

A Performance With a Message
The Pushcart Players from Verona, NJ, performed “Happily Ever After”, a version of the Cinderella story, for the Elementary and Primary third year students. Learning about Korea

Junior I Hosts School Spirit Day!
The Junior I students hosted School Spirit Day! They acted out a story on friendship and then they each read what friendship means to them as they placed a flower in a vase. The flowers symbolized friends coming together to form a community. Zachary’s dad, Adrian, visited the Pansy Room to teach the class about Australia. Building Gingerbread Houses

A Lesson on London
Sam’s close family friend, Nina, visited the Pansy Room to talk to the children about London, England.  She gave examples of the different words they use for common items, i.e., the color yellow is called “amber” and an elevator is called a “lift”.  Nina’s visit ended with milk and shortbread cookies, otherwise known as “biscuits”.
